Mary Portas High Street Review Published

The long awaited High Street Review Report by Mary Portas has been published. The Review sets out her vision to breathe economic and community life back into our high streets. It makes ambitious recommendations for government, local authorities and business to help high streets deliver something new and innovative ways of regenerating our high streets.

Andy Collyer, Chairman of Streets Ahead Southampton Ltd said,

"This study contains 28 different recommendations, many of which have been assessed previously but due to lack of funds, lease problems or red-tape, have not succeeded. A few ideas such as a National Market Day could be problematic but nonetheless, an interesting idea. In Southampton, a favourable business improvement district could have put into place many options for rejuvenating the High Street and secondary shopping areas. The prospect for a BID in Southampton is not lost and this report could well act as the catalyst for support toward a BID. We await the Government's overview from the study and the results of their own survey into High Street performance."
