Ian Welland, now Head of Area Development for Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, was the former City Centre Manager for Southampton. He is currently acting in an advisory capacity for Streets Ahead Southampton Ltd and the City Centre Management programme.
With Southampton City Centre narrowly missing out on becoming a Business Improvement District, Ian was brought in by the new company, Streets Ahead Southampton Ltd, to spearhead the new business and action plan to restore Southampton City Centre's management programme. Working with a number of key agencies and stakeholders, the new "can-do" ethos was and is supported by a robust Executive Board that welcomes both public and private sectors to the programme.
Ian said, "This was a new start for Southampton City Centre whilst at the same time encouraging partnership participation, civic pride and high quality delivery of services and support. Whilst the BID result was disappointing for the City Centre, Southampton has much to celebrate and look forward to. With partnership, everything is possible and Southampton can be the true capital of the South of England once again. I am pleased that since April 2009, Streets Ahead has consistently delivered and will keep on delivering."
In Autumn 2010, a new Executive Board structure and Steering Group was agreed for City Centre Management. CCM Members now serve on the Steering Group which have met from January 2011 bi-monthly; with the new CCM Executive Board meeting just twice a year consisting of:
- WestQuay Shopping (Chair)
- Marlands Shopping Centre (Vice Chair)
- Bond Pearce (Legal/Sec)
- Mayflower Theatre (Accountant)
- Hampshire Chamber of Commerce (Business)
The Company has in excess of 30 members.
